LAYERED CULTURES

This Work Package is divided in two phases. First, PhDs, under supervision of the PI, will study the institutional architecture of the marine institutions of 6 EU countries by means of document analysis and a mapping of the institutional field and history.
Second, the PhDs will undertake participant observation at marine institutions in three different national contexts. The choice of the specific countries and institutions will be based on the institutional mapping and scientometric analyses. Researchers will immerse themselves in the daily life of researchers, spending time in different field sites such as the laboratory, marine vessels, offices and meeting spaces as well as seminars and public events. Depending on the national context, ethnography may include: shadowing researchers as they work in the laboratory, accompanying them as they embark on field trips, attending supervision meetings, seminars and workshops.
